This will improve the Zoom experience for Chromebook users and give them access to even more Zoom features on Chrome OS devices.

To help with the transition, we’re asking customers to switch to the PWA as soon as possible. 1, 2023 – The Chrome OS App will be fully removed and no longer available. 15, 2023 – When Chrome OS users click Zoom links, the PWA will automatically launch. 5, 2022 – The Chrome OS App is no longer searchable in the Chrome Web Store.

And a year later, in June 2022, Google phased out Chrome apps on Chrome OS. It followed up by ending support for Mac, Windows, and Linux in June 2021. In 2020, Google shared its plans to phase out Chrome apps on all devices. Instead, it has basic functionality, like the ability to attend Zoom meetings, and that's it.īut Google is also following up on previous warnings. That's why it doesn't boast the same features as Zoom apps on other devices like Windows and macOS. For one, the app has been outdated for years, thanks to the technology it was built on. Zoom ending support for Chromebooks shouldn't come as a surprise to users. If that happens, follow our guide on how to fix Zoom crashing or freezing. If you continue to use Zoom on Chromebooks until then, the app could give you issues if it isn't already. According to 9to5Google, the video conferencing platform has sent out a notice to Chromebook users to let them know the app will shut down by August 2022. Zoom's Chromebook app will soon be no more.
